Telugu Months Names | Telugu Masalu Nelalu తెలుగు నెలలు : Telugu Calendar is followed by the people of the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in India. The months according to the Telugu calendar are named Telugu Masalu and are divided into twelve in number. Each month will be having 30 days. The Telugu Nelalu names list is given below.

What are the 12 Telugu months names?

Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Shravana, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, Kartika, Margashirsha, Pushya, Magha, and Phalguna.

Each Telugu month is formed based on the name of each star. Every month in Telugu (Telugu Months Names) starts with the day “Pournami- పౌర్ణమి” and ends with “Amavasya- అమావాస్య”. The “New Year” in Telugu is called “ఉగాది”, which is celebrated as the first or the starting festival. The Telugu Nelala perlu of the new year starts from the “Ugadi” and is followed in the order discussed above.

చైత్ర మాసము (Chaitra Masamu): This is the first month in the Telugu calendar. When compared to the English calendar months it occurs in March/ April. When the moon meets with star Chitta (చిత్త) on the day of pournami, that day is called “పౌర్ణమి” and that month is called as “చైత్ర మాసము”. “Ugadi and Sri Rama Navami” are the festivals celebrated in this month.

వైశాఖ మాసము (Vaisakha Masamu): The second month of the Telugu Nelalu is named “Vaisakha Masamu”. This month is observed in April/May based on the English calendar. The formation of the “వైశాఖ మాసము” is occurred by the meeting of the moon on day pournami with the star “విశాఖ”.

జ్యేష్ఠ మాసము (Jyeshta Masamu): This month is numbered as three according to the Masalu in Telugu. Jyeshta Masamu is formed by the meeting of the star “జ్యేష్ట “with the moon on pournami. This particular month is observed during the English calendar months of May/June. “Toli Ekadasi” is the auspicious day observed during the month.

ఆషాఢ మాసము (Aashada Masamu): This is the fourth month that occurs as per the Telugu calendar. The occurrence of Aashada Masamu is found by the meeting of the moon with the “పూర్వాషాఢ” star on the day of pournami. During June/ July this month in Telugu is observed.

శ్రావణ మాసము (Sravana Masamu): The fifth month of Telugu calendar that is formed by the moon meeting with the star on pournami “శ్రవణా” is known as “Sravana Masamu”. The occurrence of this month is seen during the July/ August months in the English calendar. “Varalakshmi Vratham” is the festival celebrated in the month.

భాధ్రపద మాసము (Bhadrapada Masamu): According to the Telugu calendar the sixth month observed is known as the Bhadrapada Masamu. The month Bhadrapadamu is formed by the meeting of the moon on pournami with the star “పూర్వాభాద్ర”. This month is observed during the English calendar months of August/September. “Sri Krishna Janmashtami” is the festival observed during this month.

 ఆశ్వీయుజ మాసము (Aswayuja Masamu): The seventh month of the Telugu calendar is called Aswayuja Maasamu. This month is formed on the day of pournami by the meeting of the moon with the star “అశ్విని”. This month falls during the English months of September/ October. “Vijayadasami” is the festival celebrated in this month.

కార్తీక మాసము (Karthika Masamu): Karthika masamu is considered the eighth month of the Telugu calendar. The formation of the particular month is done on the pournami day while the moon gets to meet with the star “కృత్తిక”. October/ November are the English months that fall during the month. The festival of “Diwali” is celebrated during the month of karthika masam.

మార్గశిర మాసము (Margasira Masamu): The ninth month of the Telugu calendar is named the Margasira Masamu. This month is observed during the English months of November/ December. On the day of pournami while the moon gets met with the star “మృగశిర” the month of Mrugasira will be formed.

ఫుష్య మాసము (Pushya Masamu): Pushya masamu comes in the order of 10 according to the Telugu calendar. This month will be formed on the day of pournami, when the moon will meet the star “పుష్యమి” and is seen during the occurring of the months December/ January. “Sankranti” is the main festival celebrated at this time.                       

మాఘ మాసము (Maagha Masamu): This is the Eleventh month according to the Telugu calendar. The formation of this month is done when the moon meets the star “మఖ” on the pournami day. While running of the months January/ February this month will be seen.   

ఫాల్గుణ మాసము (Phalguna Masamu): This is the last month of the Telugu calendar. The month is formed by the meeting of the moon with the star “ఉత్తరఫాల్గున” and is observed during the formation of months February/ March. The festival “Mahasivaratri” is occurred during the month.
